文学翻译中有4种主要节奏形式：平仄、长短、音顿和声韵。这些节奏主要来自于语音要素(音高、音强、音长、音色)的周期性组合。北京翻译公司分享《七步诗》的5个英译版本!

　　七步诗

　　煮豆燃豆萁，

　　豆在釜中泣。

　　本是同根生，

　　相煎何太急。

　　《七步诗》是一首五言绝句，在音节上，奇偶相配，形成了二二一或二一二的节拍。不同节奏在诗中交错运用，句式有变化，就形成了音乐美。

　　在声韵上，主要押 i 韵，但第三句做了变换，避免一韵到底的单调。

　　在平仄上，仄声相对短促有力，平声音长较长，可以延续。在《七步诗》中，每句最后一个字既有平声，也有仄声。平仄交错，才不至于单调。而在全诗结尾用了平声，声音延续出去，也延续了对“相煎何太急”的思考，意味绵长。

　　外媒版本：

　　1. “CNN Business” 版本：

　　Beanstalks are burned to cook beans

　　The beans weep in the pot

　　We grow from the same root

　　Why should we boil each other with such impatience?

　　2. “Fortune” 版本：

　　Beanstalks are ignited to boil beans

　　The beans in the pot cry out

　　We are born of the same root

　　Why should we incinerate each other with such impatience?

　　媒体版本主要达意，相比下面的版本，在韵律上没有明显体现。

　　外国翻译家版本：

　　1. Moss Robert, Three Kingdoms 版本：

　　Beans asimmer on a beanstalk flame

　　From inside the pot expressed their ire;

　　“Alive we sprouted on a single root -

　　What’s your rush to cook us on the fire?”

　　C. H. Brewitt Taylor, Romance of the Three Kingdoms 版本：

　　They were boiling beans on a beanstalk fire;

　　Came a plaintive voice from the pot,

　　“O why, since we sprang from the self-same root,

　　Should you kill me with anger hot?”

　　这两个版本的译文已经很美，且句尾有明显押韵，Moss Robert版本押了ire和fire;Brewitt Taylor 押了 pot 和 hot。但由于英语的逻辑相对外显，且意思忠实原文，字数控制相对比较困难，与原文相比，简洁对称之美稍弱一些。

　　终于来到许渊冲先生的译文。

　　许渊冲，《汉魏六朝诗选》版本：

　　Pods burned to cook peas，

　　Peas weep in the pot：

　　“Grown from the same trees，

　　Why boil us so hot?

　　在声韵上，押了头韵，pod 和 pea;押了尾韵，peas 和 trees，pot 和 hot。

　　另外，前两句在发音上有回环(往复)的效果，第一句结尾的 peas 作为第二句开头，第一句开头的 pods 和第二句结尾的 pot 发音十分接近。这种奇妙配合富于音乐美。

　　另外，五言绝句字数少，言简意赅。许译每句话都是 5 个单词，也十分简洁。

　　当然，各个译文可能还存在其他节奏美之处，笔者水平有限，暂时只能看到这些。

　　虽然古诗英译方法存在争议，有人认为韵律相对比较老旧，不是现代生活中的实用表达，外国读者接受度也不高，还有以韵害意的嫌疑，但是这并不能否定韵律节奏美。
